Get Your Free Sampson County Library Card!

Getting a library card is a breeze and opens the door to a vast collection of resources! Here's what you need to know:

Who can get a library card?

  • Residents: Adults (18+) living in Sampson County or surrounding counties (Bladen, Cumberland, Duplin, Harnett, Johnston, Pender, Wayne) can get a card with a valid photo ID (driver's license, state ID, student ID) issued by the US government, or a passport from any country.
  • Minors: Children (5-17) in Sampson County and neighboring counties must have a parent or legal guardian with a library card in good standing (no outstanding fees or overdue items) present to get a card. Their card will be linked to the parent/guardian's account. If the parent/guardian doesn't have a card, the library will issue one before processing the child's application.

How to Apply:

  1. Visit your nearest Sampson-Clinton Public Library branch (Clinton, Garland, Newton Grove).
  2. Bring a valid photo ID issued by a US government agency (driver's license, state ID, student ID) or a passport issued by any country.
  3. Fill out a library card application form (likely available at the library branch).
  4. Library staff will process your application.

    What if I don't qualify for a card?

    Everyone is welcome to enjoy our library facilities! You can access resources for free and purchase visitor passes to use the computers for $1 per hour.

    Lost your card? Don't panic!

    Call us immediately at 910-592-4153 to report a lost card and prevent unauthorized use. While we discourage lending cards to others, staff assumes the person using the card has the owner's permission. Remember, you're responsible for everything borrowed on your card, even if it's lost. 

    By getting a library card, you will have access to:

    Books 
    • Most books may be checked out for 3 weeks.
    • Patrons may check out as many books as they wish.
    • Late fees for books are $.20 per day per book.
    • Patrons with long overdue books or fines will not be able to check out any materials.
    Audiobooks 
    • Audiobooks may be checked out for 3 weeks.
    • Patrons may check out up to 10 audiobooks at a time.
    • Late fees for audiobooks are $1 per day per item.
    DVDS
    • DVDS are checked out for 10 days.
    • Adult patrons may check out up to 10 DVDS at the same time.  Patrons 17 and under may not check out these items.
    • Late fees for DVDS are $1 per day per item.
    Magazines 
    • Magazines may be checked out for 3 weeks.
    • Patrons may check out 10 magazines at a time.
    • Late fees for magazines are $.20 per day per item.
    E-books and e-audiobooks 
    • SCPL provides access to downloadable content from outside content providers such as Overdrive and NC-LIVE. 
    • Each e-content provider sets his own check out and renewal limits.
    • No late fees are charged for these items.

    And, online materials!

    • Overdrive: Downloadable e-books and e-audiobooks
    • NC-LIVE: Online magazine articles, Films on Demand, telephone numbers, genealogy resources, homework help, and much, MUCH more.
    • Ancestry.com: This resource can only be accessed from within the library, but it is a very valuable resource for anyone interested in researching family history.
