In honor of the 50th anniversary of EMS Week, Sampson County Emergency Medical Services recognized outstanding employees from each shift, who were voted for by their co-workers. All three individuals received certificates to show our appreciation for their hard work and dedication to Emergency Medical Service:

Megan Hayes, AEMT, B-shift

Teddy Blackburn, AEMT, A-shift

Jose' Chandia, Paramedic, C-shift

We honor the entire EMS profession for its importance in protecting the safety and health of our citizens. Our country’s EMS professionals serve in a broad range of roles, from providing highly skilled care in an ambulance to serving as educators, practicing community paramedicine, and conducting research. These individuals are dedicated to improving emergency medical services on numerous levels and are helping to advance the vision of EMS Agenda 2050: a data-driven, evidence-centered EMS system.

This year’s EMS theme, “Honoring Our Past, Forging Our Future,” reminds us to acknowledge the foundational work of those who came before us while striving to build and lead the EMS system we envision for our future. In the 50 years since we began celebrating EMS Week, our profession has made enormous strides in pre-hospital care, data collection, emergency management, and community-based healthcare. We’ve developed comprehensive EMS systems that are ready for any kind of emergency—seven days a week, 24 hours a day—whether that involves transporting patients to hospitals.

Additionally, Duke Life Flight staff visited Sampson County Emergency Services back in May and presented the Life Flight One Team Award, recognizing four outstanding EMS staff members:

Brittany Febres, C-shift Paramedic, QI specialist

Luis Reyes, A-shift Paramedic, QA specialist

Blair Nuckols, A-shift Paramedic

Anthony Sessoms, A-shift Paramedic, Supervisor

The Life Flight One Team Award is a special honor given to a deserving agency, provider, or crew who has assisted Duke Life Flight in ensuring the patients are taken care of, their crews stay safe, or who have gone above and beyond in some way. Nominated by Duke Life Flight crews and chosen by their Outreach team, these awards are a small token of gratitude for the everyday heroes Duke Life Flight interacts with on a daily basis.
