Celebrating Parks and Recreation Month: Where You Belong

July 31, 2024

July is Parks and Recreation Month, we celebrate to promote building strong, vibrant and resilient communities through the power of parks and recreation. This is a time to recognize the crucial role that parks and recreational activities play in our lives. We shine a spotlight on our county’s Parks and Recreation Department, which plays a vital role in enriching our community’s quality of life.

Our county’s Parks and Recreation Department is committed to providing exceptional recreational opportunities and fostering a sense of community. Over the years, the department has become a cornerstone of local life, offering a diverse range of facilities and programs for residents of all ages, from providing open spaces, senior adult activities, coordinate special events, conduct sports camps and clinics, and partner with local municipalities to provide a variety of recreational programs.

Spotlight on Facilities

Our county features a wide variety of facilities designed to cater to the diverse needs and interests of our community. Highlights include:

  • Weeks Park: Located in 517 Clinton Street, Newton Grove, NC, the Weeks Park provides ideal location for park lovers from surrounding areas. It offers leisure and recreational activities for the community, including well-maintained baseball/softball fields, a picnic table area with shelter, a playground, and much more.
  • Western District Park: The Western District Park (WDP) is Sampson County's first community park, located at 702 West Clinton Street, Roseboro, NC. WDP features a playground, walking trail, three baseball/softball fields, and a picnic shelter. It is also a hub for athletic activities, hosting various local leagues and tournaments throughout the year.
