The mission of the Veterans Service Office is to serve veterans and their dependents. The office provides information about their rights and entitlements under various local, state and federal laws, actively assists them in filling out necessary forms, and obtains documents and other evidence to forward to the Department of Veterans Affairs.


The Veterans Service Office processes claims for the following:

  • Disabilities Compensation (Service Connected)
  • Widows Dependency Indemnity Compensation (Service-Connected Death)
  • Disabilities Pension (Non-Service Connected)
  • Death Pension (Non-Service Connected)
  • Educational Benefits
  • Insurance (Life)
  • Death and Burial Benefits
  • Health Care (Hospital, Clinic, Nursing Home)
  • State Veterans Benefits
             a. County Property Tax Exclusion
             b. Disabled Veterans (DV) License Tags
             c. Lifetime Hunting and Fishing License

The Veterans Office supports all local veterans' organizations and the Sampson County Veterans Council. The office offers support for homebound veterans and/or veterans and dependents confined in nursing homes to ensure continuation of benefits.


The veteran service officers are accredited by the Department of Veteran Affairs and hold accreditation under various service organizations, to include the American Legion, NCDVA, and DAV, etc.
