About Us

The Sampson County Community Wellness Committee, formerly Sampson County Partners for Healthy Carolinians, is a local group that consists of public-private partnerships representing public health, hospitals, health and human service agencies, civic groups, churches, schools, businesses, community members and leaders.

The mission of the Community Wellness Committee is to improve the health and quality of life for Sampson County's citizens.

In 2021, the Community Wellness Committee identified (1) Obesity through exercise and nutrition, (2) Substance Use, and (3) Teen Pregnancy as the top health concerns to be addressed in the Community Health Improvement Plans (CHIPs) by Sampson County and public health.

Health Programs

Breast & Cervical Cancer Control Program (BCCCP)

The North Carolina Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program (NC BCCCP)provides free or low-cost breast and cervical cancer screenings and follow-up to eligible women in North Carolina who are between ages 40 - 64 for breast screening services and 21 - 64 for cervical screening services. Services include clinical breast exams; screening mammograms; pap tests; diagnostic procedures (diagnostic mammograms, ultrasounds, colposcopies, breast and cervical biopsies); and medical consultations to eligible women. Diabetes Self-Management Education & Support

Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support (DSMES) is designed for patients diagnosed with diabetes that need formal diabetes education. Patients receive information on monitoring, meal planning, medications, complications, physical activity and stress management. Diabetes education is offered by Sampson County Health Department. NC Cooperative Extension Health & Wellness

NC Cooperative Extension has a variety of health and wellness programs available for the public. These include nutrition education, label reading, hands-on cooking, shopping smart, diabetes education and more. We serve ages 5 and up, with youth programs in the schools, adult cooking workshops, and nutrition education at our local senior centers. BCCCP Advisory Board

ABOUT US

The Sampson County Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program (BCCCP) Advisory Board exists to educate and inform the community of the importance of early detection and treatment of breast and cervical cancer.  The Advisory Board urges women to take advantage of the NC BCCCP offered through local health departments to help with the cost of breast and cervical cancer screenings.  The Advisory Board has several events throughout the year in the community to promote breast and cervical cancer awareness including Teal Ribbon Campaign, Pink Ribbon Campaign, and the Annual Breast & Cervical Cancer Awareness Rally & Health Fair.  For more information, to become a member or to make a donation, contact Sampson County Health Department at (910) 592-1131 ext. 4240 or 4214.
