Absentee Voting

A qualified voter of Sampson County may fill out an Absentee Ballot Request form beginning 50 days prior to an election, but not later than the Tuesday prior to an election, and mail it to the Sampson County Board of Elections, 120 County Complex Rd. Suite 110, Clinton, NC 28328. A voter's near relative or verifiable legal guardian may also fill out an application for the voter beginning 50 days prior to an election, but not later than the Tuesday prior to the election. A near relative is defined as a spouse, brother, sister, parent, grandparent, child, grandchild, mother-in-law, father-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, stepparent, or stepchild. In order to be counted, all voted ballots, properly executed and witnessed, must be returned to the Board of Elections Office no later than 5:00 pm on the day before the election. The ballots must be delivered by the voter, his near relative, or the US Postal Service with an official postmark.

Please note, the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA) absentee voters are treated differently from normal mail-in absentee voters. For more information on UOCAVA absentee voting, please visit the NC State Board of Elections or FVAP website.

One-stop Absentee Voting

Voting in person prior to Election Day is allowed as one-stop absentee voting. This is also commonly known as "early voting." At dates, locations, and times posted by the County Board of Elections, any registered Sampson County voter may appear at any open one-stop absentee voting location and vote.

This procedure is offered for both Primary and General Elections. One Stop locations and hours vary each Election. During one-stop voting, you are not required to vote in your precinct.
